We’re excited to introduce two new Soup Jar recipes created in collaboration with Toast Inc.’s Changemaker awardees! We were honored to work alongside this inspiring group of chefs and leaders from across the country, all fighting food insecurity in their communities. Mae’s Chicken Flavor Noodle Soup and Louisiana-Style Red Lentils and Rice were developed with Lola’s Modern Kitchen of Indiana, and Vegans on the Run of Louisiana. The recipes debuted at a VVMA-led Soup Jar-making event at Toast’s Boston headquarters in July and Changemakers have since brought the Soup Jar model back to their own communities. Be sure to try these exciting new recipes at an upcoming Soup Jar event!
Volunteers in action
Desk Mates
Desk Mates, launched in January 2021 by Volunteer Ventures MA, aims to support students by providing free, hand-built desks to those without a dedicated study space at home. This program has helped hundreds of students in the Boston area. Thanks to efforts of over 700 volunteers, more than 500 desks have been built and delivered, giving students a better chance to succeed in school. As demand continues to grow, we’re committed to building even more desks with our volunteers to meet the ongoing need.

Whoo hoo! We’ve exceeded our goal of 2k jars this season…and we’re still making more. Check back to our virtual soup jar as we count our impact!
Beyond 5,000 Soup Jars
Our soup jar initiative is dedicated to supplying healthy meals to those coping with food insecurity. Since the start of this initiative, we've made and distributed over 5,000 soup jars to local food pantries and meal programs. Join us as we aim to make 2,000 more soup jars this year! We believe that addressing food insecurity is not just a necessity; it's a fundamental step towards building a compassionate community where no one is left without access to essential nutrition.
Able Tables
Accessible Picnic Tables
Join our commitment to make outdoor spaces accessible to all with our thoughtfully designed picnic tables. This groundbreaking project aims to extend a warm invitation to individuals with limited mobility to our specially designed tables. It’s a powerful step towards inclusivity, ensuring that everyone has a seat in the middle of the action at the table.

ANNUAL MLK DAY OF SERVICE
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service brings community members together to honor Dr. King’s legacy through meaningful action. Volunteers of all ages participate in hands-on projects that address real community needs, from building essential items for local organizations to preparing resources that support families across Greater Boston. By working side by side, volunteers not only contribute tangible support but also build connections rooted in compassion and a shared commitment to community care.
